How to Use the Nebraska Child Support Calculator

Enter what you know and press Calculate Estimate. The calculator follows the Nebraska Child Support Guidelines (Neb. Ct. R. 4-201 to 4-222), Table 1 and Worksheets 1 and 3.

  1. Enter each parent's gross monthly income. The calculator estimates federal and Nebraska income tax and Social Security to get net income.
  2. Choose the number of children and the parent the children live with most of the time.
  3. Enter the days a year with the other parent. More than 142 days with each parent uses the joint physical custody worksheet.
  4. Add the children's health insurance premium and child care, and say who pays them.

Your numbers are sent with the form, not placed in the page address, and this site does not store them. This is a planning estimate. A Nebraska court sets the actual amount.

Nebraska Child Support Changes for 2026

Looking for Nebraska child support guidelines for 2026? On January 28, 2026 the Nebraska Supreme Court amended section 4-218, effective January 1, 2026, raising the basic subsistence limitation from $1,304 to $1,330 of net income a month for one person (amendment). The rest of the guidelines and Table 1 follow the court's most recent quadrennial review (2024 review report).

How Nebraska Calculates Child Support (Worksheet 1)

  1. Net income: each parent's total monthly income minus taxes (using standard deductions and exemptions), FICA, mandatory retirement, support for other children and the parent's own health insurance.
  2. Table 1: find the support for the combined monthly net income and number of children.
  3. Health insurance: add the children's premium to the table amount.
  4. Shares: each parent pays their percentage of the total, and the parent who pays the premium gets credit for it.
  5. Child care: work or training related child care, less the federal child care credit, is added at the paying parent's share.

Nebraska Table 1 (Income Shares Formula)

Sample rows (monthly):

Combined monthly net income1 child2 children3 children
$2,000$387$575$712
$4,150$770$1,116$1,385
$6,600$981$1,402$1,730
$9,500$1,258$1,801$2,201
$20,000$2,282$3,220$3,732

Table 1 runs from $500 to $20,000 in $50 steps for one to six children; this calculator uses the nearest $50 row. Above $20,000 support may be higher but not lower than the $20,000 amount; the guidelines suggest adding 10% of income above $20,000 for one to three children, 12% for four, 13% for five and 14% for six.

Joint Physical Custody (Worksheet 3)

When joint physical custody is ordered and each parent has more than 142 days a year, Worksheet 3 is presumed (section 4-212). With 109 to 142 days, the court may use it at its discretion.

  1. Multiply the Table 1 amount by 1.5.
  2. Split it by each parent's percentage.
  3. Multiply each parent's share by the percentage of the year the children spend with the other parent.
  4. Offset the two amounts and adjust for the health insurance premium.

Nebraska Child Support Examples

In each example the children live with Parent B. Amounts are monthly and come from this calculator, so taxes are estimates.

Example 1: One child

A earns $5,000 and B earns $3,000 gross. Net incomes are about $4,045 and $2,544 ($6,600 row). Table 1 gives $981, and A's 61.39% share is $602 a month.

Example 2: Two children with insurance and child care

A earns $6,000 and B earns $4,000. B pays $200 insurance and $600 child care ($500 after the imputed credit). A pays $1,078 plus 58.92% of child care: $1,373 a month.

Example 3: Joint physical custody

A earns $7,000 and B earns $5,000, two children, 182 days with A. Worksheet 3 gives $194 a month from A.

Example 4: Basic subsistence limitation

A earns $1,800 gross (about $1,597 net). The guideline share of $297 would leave A below $1,330, so support is $267 a month.

These are illustrations produced from the guidelines, not court rulings.
