Indiana Child Support Calculator
Estimate Indiana child support with the weekly Guideline Schedule from the Indiana Child Support Rules and Guidelines, converted for monthly budgeting.
How to Use the Indiana Child Support Calculator
Using the Indiana child support calculator takes about a minute. Enter what you know, press Calculate Estimate, and read the breakdown under the result.
- Enter each parent's gross monthly income (before taxes) as Parent A and Parent B.
- Choose the number of children and the parent the children live with most of the time (the custodial parent).
- Add monthly work-related child care and the children's health insurance premium, if any, and say which parent pays them.
- Enter income in monthly terms; the calculator converts it to weekly amounts because Indiana's guideline schedule and orders are weekly.
No account is needed. Your numbers are sent with the form, not placed in the page address, and this site does not store them. Treat the result as a planning estimate, then confirm it with the court or your state child support agency.
New Indiana Child Support Laws and Changes for 2026
Looking for new child support laws in Indiana for 2026? The most recent major change is the revised Indiana Child Support Guidelines effective January 1, 2024. The Indiana Supreme Court approved an updated weekly support schedule based on current child-rearing costs, a low-income adjustment that now uses the parents' combined income, and a more precise method for the parenting time credit when overnights differ between children. As of this review we did not find a further 2026 amendment to the guidelines.
Check the Indiana Supreme Court's Child Support Rules and Guidelines for later updates. A guideline change does not automatically change an existing order.
How Indiana Calculates Child Support: Weekly Schedule and Guidelines
Indiana sets support under the Indiana Child Support Rules and Guidelines issued by the Indiana Supreme Court. Everything is expressed per week. The calculator follows these steps:
- Weekly gross income (Guideline 3). Each parent's income is converted to a weekly figure. Monthly income is multiplied by 12 and divided by 52.
- Combined weekly income. Add both parents' weekly figures.
- Basic child support obligation. Read the Guideline Schedule for Weekly Support Payments, which runs from $100 to $9,200 of combined weekly adjusted income; the nearest row is used. Above $9,200, the schedule gives a percentage of combined weekly income for each family size (8.1% for one child up to 20.4% for eight).
- Add child care and health insurance to get the total weekly obligation.
- Apply each parent's percentage share. The paying parent's share, less costs the paying parent already pays directly, is the weekly guideline amount.
Because Indiana orders are weekly, the monthly figure shown on this page is the weekly amount multiplied by 52 and divided by 12, for budgeting only.
Indiana Child Support Examples
Example 1: 2 children with child care
The children live with Parent A, who earns $3,200 a month gross. Parent B earns $5,200. Parent A pays $150 a month for child care.
- Parent A weekly gross income: $738.46
- Parent B weekly gross income: $1,200.00
- Combined weekly income: $1,938.46
- Basic obligation per week (Schedule row $1,940 per week): $407.00
- + Child care (weekly): $34.62
- + Health insurance for the children (weekly): $0.00
- Total obligation per week: $441.62
- Parent B share (61.9%): $273.38
Result: Parent B pays Parent A about $273.38 per week (≈ $1,184.65 per month).
Example 2: 1 child, no extra costs
Parent A has the child and earns $2,000; Parent B earns $6,000.
- Parent A weekly gross income: $461.54
- Parent B weekly gross income: $1,384.62
- Combined weekly income: $1,846.15
- Basic obligation per week (Schedule row $1,850 per week): $265.00
- + Child care (weekly): $0.00
- + Health insurance for the children (weekly): $0.00
- Total obligation per week: $265.00
- Parent B share (75%): $198.75
Result: Parent B pays Parent A about $198.75 per week (≈ $861.25 per month).
Example 3: 3 children, equal incomes, other parent pays insurance
Both parents earn $4,500 a month. Parent B pays $200 a month for the children's health insurance.
- Parent A weekly gross income: $1,038.46
- Parent B weekly gross income: $1,038.46
- Combined weekly income: $2,076.92
- Basic obligation per week (Schedule row $2,080 per week): $521.00
- + Child care (weekly): $0.00
- + Health insurance for the children (weekly): $46.15
- Total obligation per week: $567.15
- Parent B share (50%): $283.58
- − Costs Parent B pays directly (weekly): -$46.15
Result: Parent B pays Parent A about $237.42 per week (≈ $1,028.82 per month). With equal incomes each parent's share is 50%, and the credit for the insurance Parent B already pays lowers the amount.

Indiana Parenting Time Credit and Shared Custody
Indiana does not treat shared custody the way income-share states with a 50/50 multiplier do. Instead, Guideline 6 gives the paying parent a Parenting Time Credit based on the number of overnights the children spend with them, using a parenting-time table that starts at 52 overnights a year (an average of one a week). The credit reduces the weekly support amount.
This calculator does not yet apply the Parenting Time Credit, so its result is the full guideline amount before any credit. If the paying parent has regular overnights, the actual order may be lower. Check Guideline 6 or ask the court for the credit calculation.
Frequently Asked Questions About Indiana Child Support
Is this the official Indiana child support calculator?
No. It is an independent estimator that applies the published Indiana Child Support Guidelines schedule. The Indiana courts publish the rules, guidelines, schedules and worksheet. An official amount comes from the court.
How is child support calculated in Indiana?
Both parents' incomes are converted to weekly gross income and combined. The basic obligation comes from the weekly Guideline Schedule, child care and health insurance are added, and each parent pays their income share. Indiana orders are expressed per week.
Why does Indiana calculate child support weekly?
The Indiana Child Support Guidelines set the schedule and the order in weekly amounts. This calculator converts monthly income to weekly (×12 ÷ 52) and shows a monthly equivalent only for budgeting.
What is the highest income on the Indiana schedule?
$9,200 of combined weekly adjusted income. Above that, the guidelines give a percentage of combined weekly income depending on the number of children, such as 8.1% for one child and 11.4% for two.
Does this Indiana calculator include the Parenting Time Credit?
Not yet. The Parenting Time Credit (Guideline 6) reduces support for overnights with the paying parent, starting at 52 overnights a year. This estimate shows the amount before that credit.
Is there an Indiana child support worksheet?
Yes, the Indiana courts publish a Child Support Obligation Worksheet. This calculator follows the same steps, so you can use it to check the numbers before filling in the official worksheet.
How does Indiana child support work with 50/50 custody?
Indiana uses the Parenting Time Credit rather than a 50/50 multiplier. The credit comes from the parenting time table in Guideline 6 and reduces the weekly obligation. This calculator does not apply it yet.
Can child support in Indiana be modified?
Orders can generally be modified when circumstances change enough; the rules for when and how are set by Indiana law. This calculator only estimates a new guideline amount and does not determine whether modification is allowed.
What happens if the combined income is very low?
If combined weekly income is under $100, the schedule does not apply and the court decides support in its discretion. The calculator will say it cannot estimate.
Are there new child support laws in Indiana in 2026?
The most recent major update is the Indiana Child Support Guidelines revision effective January 1, 2024, with a new weekly schedule and a low-income adjustment based on combined income. We did not find a further 2026 amendment as of this review.
